About Us

Local residents have set up a charity - Chatterbus CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) charity number: 1173907 - to tackle the problem of Transport Poverty in Cobham and surrounding areas by setting up the Chatterbus service. Lack of appropriate local transport is limiting opportunities for employment, training and even access to state benefits. Originally a community interest company (CIC), Chatterbus became a charity in July 2017.

The Chatterbus CIO Board includes a broad spectrum of the Community including the professionals needed to oversee, launch and monitor the new service. Both Surrey and Elmbridge Councils are represented on the Board by their respective local councillors.

As well as running the new bus service, the charity’s aim is to encourage increased passenger numbers on the existing 408, 513 and 515 routes. Chatterbus will complement the existing bus and train services, making public transport a more attractive option: increased usage will make all the services more sustainable.

Chatterbus is unique. It’s a charity managed solely by local people for the local community, using an experienced professional bus company to run the bus service itself.

The timetable has been developed using research and personal knowledge of what local people really need from their bus service, especially when travelling East/West around the local area. The emphasis is on providing a reliable, friendly service that’s there when you need it.

Chatterbus could not run without the help of our three major sponsors – Elmbridge Borough Council, Surrey County Council and Chelsea Foundation
